The district encompasses 197 contributing buildings in the Central Business District and the surrounding residential sections of Columbia City. The median age in the city was 36.1 years. Much of Columbia City's lumber, as well as Seattle's products, went to their own lakeside buildings and summer residences. The Board is responsible for the final review and approval of requests for certificates of approval for any changes in the exterior appearance of buildings or structures, streets, sidewalks and other public spaces in the District.
